HIMYM Finale

OH, BARNEY/ROBIN! WE GOT MAKING OUT!!!!

I think this really was the right way to go: Robin knows, both their commitment issues were on full (HILARIOUS) display, and, oh yeah, WE GOT MAKING OUT!!!

I was hoping for a little more with them at the end, but I loved what we got. They can go in so many directions from here. My interpretation is they'll be in some kind of relationship next year, but given that neither can say "I love you" without the other freaking out, I don't think they're in danger of getting married and opening that B&B anytime soon.

(ALSO. It gives me all kinds of fic ideas. Isn't nice when shows are considerate like that?)

Stupid Josh Radnor spoiled me for part about the mother. I guess we'll have to see how that works? I've had plenty of professors who I was just a name to, but would Ted really be that kind of teacher? Hm. I mean, maybe (probably) he won't fall in love with her until (much?) later, but it certainly seems like he'd have to "meet" her now.

I kind of rolled my eyes at leaping over the other building at first, but, you know what? It works. It's not like Ted has ever been the most reliable story teller.

And we got the goat!

Now let's see how Gossip Girl treats me!

Aren't you glad that I told you not to watch the promo. Because personally, I'm really glad that I told you not to. LOL! I had unfortunately seen the Barney/Robin kiss at least 100 times before tonight.
IT WAS STILL HOT THOUGH! And on a bigger screen than youtube!

I hoped for a bit more at the end too. Like after Barney jumped over I wanted him to kiss her or something (mostly because I was greedily hoping for a 2nd kiss). He did go in to hug her though.

I've had plenty of professors who I was just a name to, but would Ted really be that kind of teacher?
Well, it looked like he was teaching one of those lecture classes with 100+ students. I took a couple of those and I always felt like the professors really only knew maybe 5 students by name. And the other 95 were just numbers on a scantron. And if you were a professor that taught a lot of lecture classes? That would mean you would have literally hundreds of students every semester.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
YES! THANK YOU! I just watched the promo, and WOW, that really was a LOT. I mean, that's the entire resolution right there!

Yes, I was hoping for a kiss, or even a waking up together. But I saw the hug, too!

I was trying to decide that. I thought that's what Josh said, but it looked smaller to me. But I guess they can get away with it!

[identity profile] brandyleigh.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Kissing!!! Yeah, I wanted them to kiss again after they leapt across to the other roof, but I was happy with what we got. I was worried that anything from Robin's side was going to feel out of character, but I liked that they made it so she's felt something for him, but never really thought much about it or examined it because why bother, it's Barney and he's not into that kind of thing. So, I loved that it makes sense and leaves it open for them to explore her feelings more next season (and maybe Barney can woo her!) while slowly making Barney more comfortable with the idea of actually being in a relationship.

My guess with the mother being a student in Ted's class is that unless next season is the last season of the show, I think he won't actually meet the mother until after she's no longer a student in his class. Like, seasons later, she'll see him out somewhere and run up to him to introduce herself because she recognizes him as her former professor.

The leaping was super cheesy, but I just kind of loved how happy they all seemed at that moment.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I re-watched the whole hospital scene, and I think it makes perfect sense. There IS something there, everyone knows it, but it's still Barney! I think they did a great job of setting up a foundation for them to be together next season, but still have plenty of room for growth.

That was my initial thought, too. I think I've just been at my college too long, where professors only teach one class! In that situation, the professors get to know everyone, even in the big classes. I forget that that's unusual!

YES! I loved those kind of happy scenes. :)

[identity profile] brandyleigh.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I forget that a lot of colleges have small classes! I had a couple of classes the size of the one Ted appears to be teaching, and unless you went out of your way to get to know the professor, they'd never know who you were.

I'm rewatching it right now!

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've just been lucky in my college career! I don't think I've ever had a class larger than 50.

Doesn't it feel like last summer??? So much goodness to think about!!!

They're so good at giving us JUST enough! :DDD

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I mean, I've had times when I've been pretty impatient, but I think it all happened the way it had to. I think the audience needed convincing. (Except for us. 'Cause we're awesome!)

If that hospital scene was any indication, we have much fun ahead of us!!

I'm hoping to write lots of fic! In my head, I'm going to, but whhhhhy must school get in the way?

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, wasn't that WONDERFUL??? Robin really does know just how to handle him!

Oh, I'm a total sap, too. That was great! :)

Heee. Poor Ted! Attacked by a goat!

[identity profile] falsemurmur.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
my twitter updatee was real spastic. haha, i only asked you to use the link to text on my profile because i know we both live on the west coast and are pretty familiar w/tori and wanted you to get a message to her. but idk if you even have text because i was wondering if you'd be okay with trading phone numbers for us to text. anyway, yeah.

LOVE YOU. MISS YOU. (i hope my internet gets back soon so i can properly talk to you about himym!)

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ack, sorry! I avoid twitter as much as possible until I see my shows 'cause a lot of my friends update during the east coast airings.

BUT COME BACK SOON!

[identity profile] falsemurmur.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
DON'T APOLOGIZE!

my internet (alright, not my internet - whatever person's wireless connection this belongs to that i'm ~borrowing) hasn't gone out for five minutes, so i'm happy for now. hee.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
WELL GOOD! :)

[identity profile] burstoflight.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the whole episode was cute. I loved the jumping the ledge metaphor. Can't wait to see who the mother is.

The goat was epic!

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, "the leap" indeed! :) I hope we get more hints about the mother next season, thought it might be a little early.

[identity profile] coletness.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
How perfect are Robin and Barney for eachother, both with the same commitment issues and they better be in some kind of relationship next season, because I just love them so much together. That whole scene in the hospital was incredibly cute and adorable. LOVED this episode.

And LOL at the goat and Ted. xD

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! The hospital scene just made me think even more about how perfect they are together. Next season the rest of the gang is going to have to tie them down or something to make them discuss all their issues! :)

We got the goat! Finally!

[identity profile] nikitembo.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* HIMYM just makes me SOOOOO HAPPY.

And, uhm, GOSSIP GIRL WAS PRETTY FABULOUS AS WELL.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Weren't they both great??? I definitely need to re-watch both shows. :)
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! They're not going to be Lily/Marshall or even Ted/Robin, just their own special brand of crazy. :)

Hee, that's this show for you! Always giving you a little something to enjoy, even in the things you don't love!

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
THE JUMPING WAS SO EPIC I DIDN'T EVEN CARE IT WAS CHEESY. AND THE MOTHERRRRRRRR.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one show that can pull off the cheesy!

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely! And I'm so excited for the mother! And for Barney/Robin! Such a good finale! :D:D

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! They have so much awesomeness to follow up on next year!

Pssst: Did you hear Bones has been picked up for two seasons? And the premiere is Sept. 17!

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I did hear that it had been picked up for two seasons! That's awesome :D:D

Sept 17... I might have to go adjust our rewatch schedule...

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! I'm hoping this allows them to plan some things out. :-/

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So true! It'll give the writers more of a firm timeline.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I always do think that works out best! And that would give them six seasons, which wouldn't be a bad number to end at.

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely not, though I am sure I will be sad to see this show even if it's on the air for 10 years. hahah

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I'm a big fan of closure, so I wouldn't mind if it ended there. Scrubs is one of my favorite shows ever, but I'm upset that it's renewed because it had a fantastic finale.

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I actually really agree with you about closure. Prison Break totally should have ended 2 seasons ago.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard that from other people. I've just had so many shows go on for longer that they should, and it really does affect my opinion of the whole. Much better to go out on top! I love where The OC ended 'cause it was a great season, gave us our happy ending, and left us with a good idea of where everyone was going.

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, but the OC is a little different cause it sucked for 2 seasons.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Only one for me! I liked s2. Fortunately, it never did anything to really piss me off. It just got boring!

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not even sure if I've seen all of season three... I remember tuning in for Marissa's death...

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't miss much! When I re-watched it in the fall, I liked it better than the first time through, but it's by far the weakest season.

[identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
TAYLORRRRR. She is so awesome.

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
YESSSS!!!!

[identity profile] stellicidio.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for Barney and Robin!! It went perfect like this, I mean it's them!! They can slowly easy into whatever they'll be :)

Seems like we're slowly getting to "meeting" the mother, crossing off all the girls in that class LOL

Btw, I was wondering...where did Cobie's baby bump go? It was obviously not there during this episode. Maybe they taped it earlier because they knew they had the jumping thing and needed all of her without bags in front of her belly?

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! As long as there's some kind of forward motion, I'm good. :)

Hee, right? The mother's SO CLOSE.

Yeah, they filmed the episode a while ago, so they could get the girls in without huge bellies. I can't believe Cobie hasn't had hers yet! I was thinking she due before now.
