THIS IS ONE OF THOSE POSTS NO ONE BUT ME CARES ABOUT

YOU GUYS!

So the Mariners game started off all lame! Felix Hernandez was giving up a lot of walks and the guys were making a bunch of errors. Russell Branyan did get a home run, which excited me because it was his first one in a while and it made a new career high for him. But the Mariners were down 5-1 going into the bottom of the 7th (and that's a lot for them).

Ken Griffey, Jr. was up first. And it was his bobblehead night. And the thing about him is you just know he's going to hit a home run on that kind of night. He just does. He's older now, and there's a good chance this is his last year, but he's still magic. SO. Yes. He hit a home run. And that set off a rally, and they tied the game.

And it was just one of those nights where you can feel that energy. I mean, I could feel it from the TV. It was the first game of the homestead. It was Junior's bobblehead night, and fans love him. And a lot of fans were wearing gladiator helmets since they're still banned from the bullpen. And I guess it's a form of superstition that I always believe we're going to win those games. Once they tied it, I believed.

But I must admit my belief wavered when the Rays got a home run in the top of the 11th. We had the bottom of the order coming up, and they've been doing pretty well, but . . . it's still the bottom of the order. We got a man on base and managed to move him over, but we were down to the last out, and Ryan Langerhans was up.

AND HE HIT A WALK OFF HOME RUN. First one of his career and only his second home run of the year! I mean, he was in the minor leagues until we got him from the Nationals! But he's been awesome for us! Jack Zduriencik (our GM) is amazing at picking up guys like him.

(This isn't my best Mariners post. I'm tired. But I wanted to remember it.)

ETA: LOL, what? Checking MLB.com--Did everyone get walk off home runs tonight???

I don't even want to talk baseball. Damn Yankees! *grumble grumble*

[identity profile] katje0711.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Yeah, the Yanks have beaten the Red Sox in their last two games. Meh.

[identity profile] afrocurl.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, my boys had to lose in 12 (with 4 in the top to the damn Braves!) *grumbles* *wishes I had spit in Bobby Cox's hand the other night*

Also, my boys have lost the status as the best record in baseball. STUPID YANKEES!

[identity profile] katje0711.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
You hate the Yanks, too?

[identity profile] afrocurl.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
My Dodger loving heart commands it (and well, now I can't say the Dodgers have the best record in baseball.)

[identity profile] katje0711.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a Red Sox fan, so I know how you feel!

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Argh, wait, the YANKEES have the best record? Now I'm conflicted--I want them to win this weekend because of the wild card race, but I DON'T WANT THEM TO HAVE THE BEST RECORD.

By one game right now (the Dodgers are 67-43 while the Yankees are 67-42.)

[identity profile] katje0711.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Excuse me?? You want the Yankees to win???? pppppppppppppppppffffffffft!!!!!!!

Can I give a tentative yes? I definitely want to and I'm, like, 90% sure I can, but I don't want to fully commit until I know what's happening with this job situation.

When are you officially moving up here?? I'm excited!

These days I feel like I don't even know anyone else here, lol! So I'd definitely be into hanging out.

And I'm kinda hoping to be spending a lot of time in Seattle in general in the upcoming days--job searching and what not.

Hee, the Mariners just often don't get a lot of runs.

Hee, well that sounds like fun!

Third place, but not too many games back, so I have hope. :)

You might have been right in the title, but I admire this haha. I don't understand baseball at all!

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-08-09 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, thanks!

Aw, I'm not really a Yankees fan. I'm just keeping an eye on the wild card race.

[identity profile] katje0711.livejournal.com 2009-08-09 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but you wanted them to win! LOL

[identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com 2009-08-09 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really just a Mariners fan. :)
