Insanely Long Insomnia Fueled TV Catch Up Post
I love TV. I know, I know. That's an obvious statement coming from me, but it's something I've been wanting to say. It seems like I've read so many negative comments about TV shows lately (not here) and they irritate me. Sure, things happen on TV I don't like and sometimes I say so, but, for the most part, when I talk about TV, I want to talk about things like how cute Jim or Pam are or what the heck is going on with Lost? Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one who feels that way. It's one of the reasons I've never been able to get super-into fandom. Eventually, things seem to descend into a bitching session, and that's just not why I watch TV. I watch TV because I enjoy it. I love getting wrapped up in a story and invested in characters' lives. And (despite what some people think) I really do know it's "just a TV show." My life isn't ruined when my favorite character dies or my favorite couple breaks up.
I certainly don't suggest living your entire life this way, but when it comes to TV, can't we live by the "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" rule?
Which I guess means that if I don't talk about one of my shows this week, I didn't enjoy it as much as usual. Or else that i just forgot about it, which probably amounts to about the same thing.
Take this show for instance. So many people tear it down. I'm used to it, but . . . really, is it worth the effort? I don't think reality TV is actually leading to the downfall of civilization and it's produced more than one successful artist. That's enough credibility for me.
I'm way late to the party, but I wanted to talk about this week's performances anyway.
Syesha: I still can't quite warm up to her, though she was good this week. I keep thinking she's going to be the one to leave, but now I'm thinking she might end up with a nice, fourth place finish.
Jason: I liked it! I'm aware I'm maybe the only one in the entire world who did, and I'm okay with that. Jason's probably the only contestant, ever, who I could imagine going to a concert for (concerts are generally too loud and crowded for me). He's just really got that emotional connection thing. More so than anyone else this season. He's still my current favorite.
Brooke: I've been a fan of hers for a long time, but she almost totally lost me with the starting and stopping again. I guess that's a little hypocritical of me because I could see myself doing the same thing, but it did seem unprofessional of her. And it made me not like the rest of her performance.
David A: So you know how at the beginning of the season everyone said he was too good too soon and would have problems because of that? I kept thinking, "No way! I'm never going to feel that way." Yeah. I feel that way. I still love him and am looking forward to his post-Idol career, but, really, while I'm enjoying every performance, I'm not sure anything's really stood out for him since "Imagine."
Carly: In high school, I went to a choir concert and watched my very Jewish friend sing background vocals for this song. She looked half confused and half amused for the whole performance. I thought Carly did a really good job with this! She did indeed look relaxed on stage, like she was finally having fun.
David C: So "Music of the Night" is one of my favorite songs ever. And that always make it weird to hear. I always vacillate between "Yay! Someone's singing a song I love!" and " . . . but that's not how it's supposed to sound." But I downloaded the studio version and it's really growing on me. So I liked it.
And then the results . . . well, I'm not exactly shocked, but I was a little confused. I really thought it was going to be Brooke and (despite my love for him) that Jason might be in trouble, too. I'm glad for Carly that she really did seem okay with leaving. She wants this so badly. I know that attitude's turned some people off, but I hope she succeeds.
I do think it's going to be an all-David finale (can either of them really do anything to screw that up at this point?), but I have no idea where the other three will place. And I do still want Archuleta to win. I think he'd have the most successful career as an Idol winner (which isn't necessarily the same thing as the most successful singing career).
Aw . . . this was a really good episode! Dr. Kelso said something nice to Ted! I hope Kelso is still around, though. Especially now that they're (unofficially) getting another season on ABC. It just wouldn't be the same with out them.
And I think this is the only show that could pull off jokes about purple pee and a main character's boob and mke me enjoy them.
Okay, Jim and Pam are TOTALLY a better couple than Andy and Angela. Phew. Just had to get that off my chest.
I'm so innocent and pure that at first, when Ryan hugged Michael and Dwight, I was just like, "Oh, look Ryan's drunk." But then they zoomed in on his jittery hand and the lightbulb clicked. Oh Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. Remember when he was just the temp? In the pre-Kelly days? He's come so far. And, likely, will fall so far.
Dwight making out with a woman who's not Angela! How did that happen?

azuremonkey and I are debating the Toby-crush. I think it's gone too far. She disagrees. Thoughts? I mean, I love Toby, but things like tonight and him not allowing Jim and Pam to sign the relationship contract at the beginning of the season crossed the line for me. I think I might feel differently if I got a sense of Toby and Pam as friends or thought she returned her feelings at all, even just a little bit. But, as it is, Pam completely belongs with Jim, and this just makes Toby look more pathetic. Which isn't fun to see.
I wasn't really enthused about Lost tonight, but of course it ended up sucking me in right away!
Alex! Poor Ben. He did love her.
And Sayid has very bad luck with his woman. Shannon, Nadia . . . So do other people think Ben might've been behind Nadia's death? He's certainly capable of it, and I could see him doing it to get Sayid on his side (whatever that means!).
So Claire blew up, but she seems fine. And look at Sawyer being all sweet to her! Should I become a Sawyer/Claire shipper now?
This Jacob thing is really interesting. That Ben needs Locke to talk to Jacob and Hurley to find the cabin. I'm looking forward to finding out more!
And Ben controlling/calling the smoke monster! So does he have complete control over the smoke monster? Like, did he "tell" it to kill Eko? Or did the smoke monster do some of this stuff on its own?
And speaking of deaths, did the boat people kill off everyone in Locke's group who's not a main character? It kind of seemed that way.
Oh, and tonight's episode had that rare distinction of making me talk out loud to my TV. Specifically, saying, "No! Don't do that!" when Ben said he was going to kill Penny. Seriously, Ben. Don't do that.
And how about that conversation between Ben and Charles? (I almost called him Caleb, still thinking of his O.C. character, but I finally came up with the right name.) Very intriguing stuff going on there. At first I even thought they might be in this (what is "this" anyway?) together, but that quickly proved to be false. Still . . . they seem to know each other on a more personal level than I had guessed.
I haven't watched Grey's Anatomy yet. I went to bed after Lost, but then couldn't sleep. Hey, at least my intentions were good.

I didn't realize that Ryan was anything other than drunk at first, either, until they showed his hand shaking. And for some reason, I would think that Dwight would pick up on that like, instantly.
So, on LOST - I really did NOT expect Alex to die. I mean that was just insane. Am I the only one who thought that was unnecessary?
I'm thinking that Smoky lives in a cave under Ben's house? Or...something? I think he can call it when he needs a 'favor' or something, but Smoky can also go out on his own.
I keep hearing rumors that Claire is going to die. I wonder if tonight was a cop out, or if she has some kind of internal damage? (Either way, something has to happen to her to let Kate raise Aaron.)

My thoughts exactly! They are kinda cute together and I loved Sawyer in this episode anyway. The whole Hurley thing was great also.

Exactly! I'm trying to stay away from most non-LJ places now (and even some of the communities). I think my flist is a pretty positive place, but once I venture beyond it, it can get scary.
