So the Canadian commentators barely paid attention to the Americans in the relay! They were all, "Okay, the Americans have the gold, who's going to get the rest of the medals?" Practically before the race even began!

And it IS true that Michael Phelps makes the incredible look so easy. He now has the most gold medals of anyone, EVER, but we're all like "La di da, that's just what he does."

On the other end of the spectrum . . . VERY disappointed with the gymnastics. The Americans made so many mistakes! At least Shawn Johnson was looking good . . . maybe she'll get gold in some of the other events.

I watched I watched!

The swimming was so badass. I loved how we were so far ahead of everyone else and the world record the WHOLE time.

And I was so sad about the gymnastics! The stupid floor routine and balance beam KILLED :( Oh well! Silver isn't awful and we still have individual comps :)

Yay!

I know! They were just incredible! When they finished, the other teams were practically halfway across the pool! I'm just loving the swimming this year.

Yeah, it really sucked to see them make so many mistakes. But silver isn't bad at all and I have high hopes for the rest of the gymnastic events. :)

That's so cool that you're watching the Canadian coverage. Do you like it better than the American? I've been watching more American coverage because I watch in prime time (the "live" coverage doesn't start until 11 p.m. here, for example, so I'm watching early in the evening here). The U.S. station has been good about editing together a bunch of interesting things, but the Canadian channel at those hours will air a really long boxing match or something else I'm not interested in. When there is actual coverage going on (esp. live) I prefer the CBC, as they seem less sensational, and I love our news host Brian Williams. :) I'm starting to stay up really late (till midnight here) just to see some live coverage and some of the actual news desk. Sheesh. I hate these hours.

It's been interesting to compare them. I think the Americans are better at keeping the pace going . . . sometimes I get so bored just waiting for stuff to actually happen on the Canadian coverage. They're not as good at keeping me interest while waiting for scores and such.

But I like getting the different perspective. And it's cool getting the focus on the Canadian athletes that Americans tend to ignore.

Yes, exactly. At times I find the American coverage too flashy, but they're much better at changing it up and keeping it interesting. But it's really nice to have access to both channels, as when the Canadian one gets going, it's much more substantial.
