I watched Atonement today. I didn't like the novel, so I wasn't expecting to like the movie. And I didn't. (Yeah, I know. Why even bother watching then? But I was interested to see how they translated it to the screen.) Really, it's a good adaption, good performances, etc. It's just such a despicable premise. A girl lies and ruins a bunch of people's lives. That's not fun to watch. And I'm not a fan of the meta-fiction type scene where you find out "Hey! That one scene? Yeah. That didn't actually happen. Really, they DIED." When I read/watch a story, I want to be caught up in the story. I don't want deep thoughts about what a novel is and what it all means and blahblahlblah.
