[livejournal.com profile] crashandburn has a Friending Meme up. Yay! We all need new friends, as the new TV season starts, right?

And it's a new month, so here's what I read and watched this month. I read a ton this month, even for me. Blame it on being laid up with my leg so much!

Books )

Movies )

*=new to me. Masterlist here. And I'm always happy to discuss anything I read or watch.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back tonight to talk about TV. Just wanted to get my lists posted first.

My millionth post of the day, but [livejournal.com profile] jadzia325 just e-mailed me that Twilight will be released November 21!! You can see the new date at the website.

Take THAT, Harry Potter!
katayla: (Default)
Jumping on the latest news to sweep my flist . . .

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince won't be released until next July!!!

They're insane! Fans are going to be so pissed off!!!

24 Books )

6 Movies )

So those are my lists for July. * = new to me and masterlist here. Fun stuff!

And, okay, I found out more about the Breaking Dawn party. Apparently they're not passing out bracelets (to determine your place in line for the book) until tonight, right before the party! Which doesn't seem like very good planning to me. Plus, I never even got a confirmation e-mail, so who knows if they even got my order right? I'm still going, but if it's ridiculously crowded at midnight, I might take off and just get the book at Costco or something tomorrow morning.

But  maybe everyone else in town will decide to go to Borders! (We're going to Barnes & Noble

From Meg Cabot's blog:

Did I mention the film rights for the Queen of Babble series have been optioned by Sharp Independent Films, and Kristin Bell of Veronica Mars and Forgetting Sarah Marshall has agreed to play Lizzie Nichols???

That would be awesome. One of my favorite book series, one of my favorite actresses . . .

And . . . HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! Which I figure I can direct to everyone on my flist because if you're not American, I can be wishing you happiness on this random day in July. I don't have any plans for the fourth, which I was prepared to be defensive about ("I don't like crowds, I don't like noise."), but then I talked to lots of other people who don't have plans, so I guess I'm not the only one who feels this way. Anyway, this no crowds/no noise plan might not work because:

1. In an apparent quest to break everything I own . . . I broke my coffeepot. And that's something I need to replace as soon as possible.
2. Fireworks are legal here. Which I realized, literally, yesterday. They weren't legal where I was living last year. People still set them off, but . . . I think it's going to much worse here.

A day late on these, but I've been busy. Studying. Or possibly watching a bunch of How I Met Your Mother. Anyway, my movies, TV shows and books for the month of May. If it's marked with an asterick, that means it was new to me, the master list is here and if you want to talk me about any of it, then that would just be awesome.

13 Books )

(What do you know? All new books this month. That's a little unusual for me, I think.)

I also did a bunch of homework and made some new friends (LJ and RL). So a productive month, yes?
katayla: (Default)
I saw the Sex and the City movie, but I feel like I shouldn't say anything about it yet. I know a lot of people haven't seen it and it's not even open worldwide yet.

But if you have seen it . . . come talk to me, please!

Twilight trailer!!!!" (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] quenbolyn for the link).

So what does everything think????

My brief thoughts (spoiler-y for the trailer and first book only) )
katayla: (Default)
I'm failing at doing anything very productive today. I did have class in the morning, so I guess that counts, but it's one of those days where I'm having trouble just deciphering the homework instructions. And my friend has been raving about Cassandra Clare's books all week (City of Bones and City of Ashes. Anyone read them?) and I just borrowed them from her, so I'm eager to dive into those. And then, of course, there's the super-busy night of TV ahead of me! So, basically, that was me saying I'm blowing off all my homework for the rest of the day.

And here's all my list of things I read and watched in April:

24 Books (but most were of the childhood/nostalgia variety) )101 Episodes )3 Movies )
So that brings me up to 77 books, 521 episodes, and 12 movies for the year. You can see them all here. I think next year, I'll only keep track of the books. These episodes are hard to keep up with! Or is that a sign I should watch less TV? (Nah.)

I just realized that it's a new month and I should post my books/TV/movies lists.

Numbers are continued over from last month, anything starred is new to me, comment if you want to talk about anything.

14 Books )

5 movies )

Just got back from seeing The Other Boleyn Girl. I liked it. It was a little rushed in the middle, but overall a good story, with lots of pretty costumes. More spoiler-y thoughts. Although I guess the plotline's not that much of a secret, if you know your history. )

I used to be one of those obsessive "Oh my gosh!! This move sucks because they changed this one little thing from the book!" people, but I've (mostly) gotten over it. But it seems like whenever I see the movie version of a book, I feel like I wouldn't be able to follow the story if I hadn't read the book. Does anyone know what I mean? I think it's because my mind fills in all the blanks from the book and I look for that information in the movie and it's not there . . .

And you all know I'm bad at remembering names, but I'm also bad at facial recognition, which can be a detriment when I'm watching movies! I can normally remember the major players, but I forget who everyone else is! I need pop ups when people come on screen reminding me who they are.

HANDWRITING MEME;
1. name/username
2. right handed or left handed
3. favorite letters to write
4. least favorite letters to write
5. write "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog"
6. tag 5 people
Handwriting feels so personal. )

Did anyone else see the Sex and the City trailer??? I'd post a link, but they seem to be taken off YouTube nearly as soon as they go up. But see if you can find it because it's exciting! My only hope for this movie is that it doesn't negate the happy ending we already got. It was such a satisfying ending for each of the girls . . . please don't take that away!

And to continue my weekend of movie watching, today I watched Charlie Wilson's War. This one I enjoyed . . . except maybe the end when it reminded me of how it all ended up. It's not really a movie that could end on an upbeat note. It reminded me, too, of how much I like both Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. It's been a while since I've seen either of them in anything.

That will probably be the last movie I see for a while . . . unless any of you have recommendations? I think I'll drag myself to the theater to see The Other Boleyn Girl when it comes out. I enjoyed the book and period pieces can be so much fun.

Speaking of going to the movies . . . does anyone else go by themselves just because it's so much effort to go with someone else? I have one close friend I know would go with me, a couple of acquaintances . . . heck, probably even my mom or sister would go. But everyone has such different schedules that it can be such a hassle and take so long to find a time that works for everyone. If I go by myself, then I can see a movie the day it comes out or a weekday afternoon when I don't have class, whenever. Unless it's something like Harry Potter, which everyone wants to see right away, it's just easier not to invite anyone. Does that make me evil or just antisocial?

I watched Atonement today. I didn't like the novel, so I wasn't expecting to like the movie. And I didn't. (Yeah, I know. Why even bother watching then? But I was interested to see how they translated it to the screen.) Really, it's a good adaption, good performances, etc. My problem is all about the story. )

I think I need to make a rule to not even try to do homework on Fridays. Every Friday I try to, can't concentrate, and end up hating myself for it. Like yesterday I tried to understand Big-O notation in Discrete Math, was brought nearly to the brink of tears and then did nothing much for the rest of the day. Today, the math is starting to make a more sense, though I think it's crazy and I shouldn't have to do it.

So, after the math debacle yesterday, I watched Juno. I did like it, but I think it was one of those movies that suffered for everyone telling me how great it is--it just wasn't ever going to be able to live up to my expectations. And I'm still just not a movie person. I watch so much TV that I'm used to having a lot of time to get to know and care about characters. Two hours just doesn't seem like enough!

Is it bad that the bloody parts of Sweeney Todd made me want to laugh? Especially the part that made the person I saw it with cover her eyes?

Has anyone seen Cloverfield? I know I've spent way too much money the last couple of days, but I badly want to see it.
