kataylaDoes anyone else have these nights where you're exhausted and you go to bed early, but then your mind starts racing and you can't fall asleep? Yeah. They suck.
But since I'm still all about the How I Met Your Mother, I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on that.
Am I the only one who doesn't want to meet the mother quite yet? Or, if we've already met her, know who she is? I feel like the show still has quite a few years left--at least I hope so!--and while I do want to see more of the relationship than just the "meeting", I don't want it to get dragged out forever.
And Stella's great. She and Ted are good together, so I'm cool if she's the mother, but don't tell me yet! And, of course, there's that suspension of disbelief thing, where the kids ARE going to know when Ted gets to their mother. They'd know her name, whether she already had kids, what her profession is, etc.
In an ideal TV world, I'd want the final season of the show to be all planned out. Maybe have Ted meet the mother in the premiere and spend the season developing that. Or maybe not even the entire season. But I want more than just the scene of Ted meeting her.
Robin's the character I identify most with, at least in regard to relationships. I don't want kids and I'm not sure about marriage. I like being single. And that can be a weird position for a woman to be in. A lot of people don't understand that.
And guys like Ted are sweet and wonderful. I'm glad they exist. If Ted were a real person, I'd introduce him to my best friend, who wants all that marriage and kids stuff. But he's not for me. Or for Robin.
I suppose the show had to go there because I'm not sure Ted was quite convinced of that and maybe both he and Robin needed that relationship to confirm what they wanted, but it's weird to me that their relationship lasted an entire year. Especially since we knew from the very first episode that they weren't going to work out.
So. Barney. One of the big reasons I got caught up on the show was because he and Robin hooked up. There's just so much chemistry there. I remembered that from watching the first season. And they're so right for each other! They want (don't want?) the same things, can make each other laugh, and, really, why wouldn't they get together? If two of your best friends are Lily and Marshall, and the other one is Ted, what's left do but hook up?
The storyline seems abandoned for now, which sucks, but I can't imagine it's completely over with. There's way too much comedic gold there. And it's out there now. Everyone knows they slept together and there's no way this group of people is going to leave that alone. Once everyone's back together, there's got to be lots of teasing, right?
And there are so many possibilities there! I might have to start writing fic again, just to get them out of my head. They could just sleep together from time to time, like the early days of JD/Elliot on Scrubs. Or they could do a secret relationship (I love secret relationships!). Or a relationship they try to keep secret, but everyone really knows about. And makes fun of them for it.
And all the opportunity for character growth, especially for Barney! He denies it most of the time, but we HAVE seen how much he loves Marshall and Lily together, which makes me think he's not quite as down on relationships as he seems. And as others have pointed out, his Barney-ness isn't just from sleazing around with women. If you take some of that away, he's still going to be Barney, and as awesome as ever. Possibly even more awesome.
So, in conclusion, the show totally needs to listen to me and do what I say. So there! *stamps foot*
And I do love Lily and Marshall, too. There's just not as much to say about them. I wouldn't want to be them, but I would want to be friends with them.

People who find it strange that somebody wants to be single are weird...I hate that pressure from society that people need to be in a relationship. I remember when I got asked so many times when I was single "Don't you have a boyfriend yet?" You know people that hadn't seen me in a while, every single time they asked. Bah! As if life can only be good in a relationship. I mean I'm happy being in one but I was happy when I was alone also.
