The whole two Johns thing never made much sense to me, and always seemed like a plot contrivance-- like "how do we have two ships and separate episodes for each ship and still have Ben Browder on all the time?"-- than an actual story decision. I think it was VERY courageous on Farscape's plot to do the story, but it never quite worked for me. I was so angry when Aeryn came back and spurned the John who was left behind. I remember thinking "he's RIGHT THERE!" and wanting to strangle something through the TV. I honestly try not to think about the two Johns and Aeryn's two relationships with him, because it's just WEIRD. I thought at one point they made a reference that made me think the John that lived somehow got the memories of the John that died, but I can't remember exactly the episode or the situation, so I could be wrong.
The problem I have with Doctor Who is that, unlike Farscape, they didn't make it clear that the human Doctor is the same as the alien Doctor. There was no "rock-paper-scissors" scene showing you they're the same, and actually everything in the ep showed you that they're different. Doctor #2 has some of Donna in him and some humanity that will automatically make him different, and he committed a genocide that alien-Doctor thought was wrong (though I have HUGE issues with the alien Doctor's genocide as reason for exile explanation). The fact that I want to write the "real Doctor" when referring to the one still on the Tardis speaks volumes.
I do think it was a happy ending for Rose, but I really dislike the way the show portrayed it. I think they could've easily taken out some of the pain and sadness from it if they had made it more "he's THE SAME" like Farscape did. As it is, I feel so conflicted. I WANT to be all happy, but I can't shake a niggling doubt that something's not quite right about the ending, and I don't know why they left it that way, or wrote it that way. Rose at least deserved a goodbye from the Tardis!Doctor!
Um, sorry for the rambling comment. Apparently, I wanted to discuss Farscape and Doctor Who too, I just didn't know it. :)
