I liked it. I think what you have to know is that it's basically just another episode of the TV show. It's not a story that absolutely had to be told or that had to be told in the movie format, but I'm glad they did because I wanted to spend more time with the characters.
And certainly we've seen it all before. The maybe psychic. Weird science. Even the Mulder/Scully stuff was all issues we've seen them deal with before. Not from an as overtly romantic place, but, still, Scully often questioned her committment to Mulder/The X-Files. That was always part of their relationship. Heck, it was even an issue in the last movie.
And I knew the movie wasn't going to be about aliens, but . . . I kind of wish it were. It would've made more sense for them to bring Mulder back for that and it IS what the show was really about.
Random stuff:
Most shocking moment in the movie: when Scully said "That's why I fell in love with you" to Mulder. Never thought I'd hear either of them say anything like that!
SKINNER! And just when I was wondering why Scully wasn't calling someone like him or Doggett or Reyes.
The scene where we first saw Mulder was AWESOME. With the sunflower seeds, the pencils in the ceiling, the picture of Samantha.
When Scully said something to Mulder about chasing after his sister, I suddenly got this image of them, in their 90's, and her still accusing him of that! That's just going to be one of their things, isn't it?
I really liked Mulder and Scully's relationship in the movie. I wish it'd been more like that in the later years of the show. Where we know they're together and maybe that makes things slightly different, but it's not shoved in your face and they're still able to do what they have to without complications.
