Think about the year that has passed. All the memories, the entries and posts that made the year special. Think about all your past layouts, default icons, mood themes. How about all those conversations you had via comments, or the huge post in ONTD that you spent all night commenting on. The 2010 Scrapbook Post is a way to help you remember all of that, in a single post.

How do you make it so pretty like?!

For the banners: http://cooltext.com/ (IT'S SO AWESOME. You just choose options, put in the text, and they create the banners!)

And then to make it go to the left and the right:
<*div align="left">text
and <*div align="right">text

(Only without the asterisks!)

I stole the idea from [livejournal.com profile] wordsflow. It's going to be so interesting to watch them throughout the year. (Assuming I remember to take them, lol!)

Yeah! I have a file where I'm keeping stuff to keep track of. So far so good! But last year I tried to keep track of too much and got frustrated, lol. I think this is a better amount of categories!

That's what I'm doing, I also have a scrapbook log that I'm kinda keeping in notepad and I just copy/paste from there. I need to do some research on some new books though, because I have a goal of reading at least two books a month this year. I missed keeping that goal last year, so this year I wanna be so much better at it. :)

Let me know if you want any recommendations. I love talking books! :)

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_touched/
Oh, I always want recommendations as far as books go. The only thing that I refuse to read is a straight romance and I don't mean het when I say that, either. lol. I just meant, a book that's all about romance and nothing else but romance. I hate those kinds of books with a passion like I've never hated anything else in life before. lol.

Date: 2010-01-06 12:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
No worries! I don't hate them, but they just don't work for me! I mean, I love romances in books, but not straight ones! (And, lol, I don't mean in the het sense either.) I've been recommending The President's Daughter series to everyone lately. It's by Ellen Emerson White, about the daughter of the first women president. They're YA and end up dealing with some very serious issues.

Also, I lovelovelove Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books. Epic fantasy (some alternate sexual practices, so be aware of that!). And then if you want something a little lighter, Diana Peterfreund's Secret Society Girl series is awesome!

Oh, and Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper mysteries are just amazing.

Hee, anyway, let me know if you want to know anything more about these. :D

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_touched/
Oh don't get me wrong, I don't mind romance in books at all. I just don't like it when the main focus of the book is only romance, without any plot at all except some random woman/person ending up with their omg!destined to be soulmate or whatever. lol. Blech.

Hmm, I hadn't heard anything abbout The President's Daughter, I'll have to look up that series and see what it's all about. I really like the idea of it being about the daughter of the first women's president, now that's kinda awesome.

Hahaha, I don't mind some alternate sexual practices. It's all good with me, ya know. I've heard all about some of that stuff re: The Black Jewel's series, which I really need to read this year at some point.

All of those books/series sound really good and I may have to give a look into them, ya know. Oh, I definitely will, thanks. :)

Date: 2010-01-06 03:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Oh no! I totally understand. I'm the same way. I always think I should like the romance books because I do really love romances! But it's just like you said, when that's the only plot, it doesn't seem to work. There's just too much drama for my taste, lol.

It is! They're somewhat older books, but they were reissued and updated in the last couple of years.

I'm interested in the Black Jewel books, too. I almost bought them earlier this year, but I guess I better try them at the library first, to make sure I like them. :)

No problem! I'm always good for book recs!

Date: 2010-01-06 04:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_touched/
Oh good, then. *g* See, that's pretty much how I feel about romances. There's a difference between a Harlequin romance novel (which, is utter trash imho) and The Time Traveler's Wife because the later had time travel and it wasn't just all about romance being the main plot of the book, either.

See, I checked my local public library's online catalog of books and the damn thing didn't have them listed at all, which means that I'm probably going to have to find some of way of purchasing at least the first book in The President Daughter's series. Grr. I also checked it for the other books that you'd recommended and it didn't even have them listed either, which is frustrating in and of itself. You'd think that they would at least have these.

Let me know when you and if you do decide to read The Black Jewels series and I'll start reading it with you and maybe we could even have a bit of a discussion on them, if you'd like. :)

Oh good deal, I just wish my library had had the ones that you'd suggested.

Date: 2010-01-06 07:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Very true! And it's not like I don't have my guilty pleasure reads, but I just can't get into those romances. I actually just tried to read these baseball romances--and you'd think those would be PERFECT for me, right?--but even those didn't work for me! (There wasn't much baseball at all, lol.)

Oh wow, NONE of them?? That really sucks! I guess then I'll suggest classics like the Anne of Green Gables series and Little Women, in case you missed out on those! (Or want to re-read them. They're still great reads as an adult, which I sadly can't say for some of my childhood favorites.)

Definitely! It probably wouldn't be for a while since I have so much on my to read list, but you never know! I'm kind of thinking of going to a used bookstore tomorrow and maybe I'll look out for them.

ooooh i love your scrapbook, katie! i am still getting mine tweaked just how i want it.

oh DO read the BDB series. it's one of the best "vampy" series i've read, as unlike some others, there actually IS a plot - and a very interesting one - to go along with the romance. and while there is, at times, a bit too much emphasis on the sex, the love between the male and females is so genuine. :)

You've seen more movies than me... lol Also, my curiosity actually inspired this comment because I was wondering what the unaired Fringe episode is.

Anyway, if I were you, I wouldn't try to catch up on Brothers & Sisters or House. Neither one is really worth it ...I've had maybe three episodes for both shows combined in the recent past that I actually enjoyed.

Date: 2010-02-06 12:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Haha, go me? I feel like I remember you talking about this Fringe ep. It was that random one that aired a couple of weeks back with Charlie in it? I forgot the rest of the plot now, but something with a little girl who was sort of taken over by a dead guy? I just couldn't figure out how to list it here, since it didn't exactly fit into season 2. (Although imdb says it's 211, so maybe I should list it that way.)

I'm not very motivated to catch up on them! It's just always hard to give on those shows I once liked so much. But I think I'm a year behind on House now and almost as much on Brothers & Sisters, so I'm not sure if I'll ever really get to them.

Date: 2010-02-06 07:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] badeperle.livejournal.com
You mean "Unearthed"? Yes, I've seen the episode but since it's listed as 2x11 everywhere, I never thought people would call it the "unaired season one" episode. I still wonder though why we didn't get to see it during the first season ...or at least before Charlie died. No wonder people are confused as to how they should list it. But since I've based the following numbering on it, I'm sticking with 2x11.

I get that and let's face it, I'm the same way. Otherwise, I would have stopped watching them a long time ago. With Brothers & Sisters, everything feels kinda old ...there are hardly any new storylines. Take Robert and Kitty for example. First he runs for president, then he drops out. This season, he ran for governor but dropped out of that race too a couple of weeks ago and now decided to not run for his senate seat again. Instead, Kitty will. I mean, seriously? Can they come up with something else?! The only storylines they get involve marriage problems or political races which is never seen through. It's all so blah!

And House ...well, the medical cases aren't that interesting anymore and the show focuses so much on House's (obsessive) love for Cuddy, it's annoying.

Date: 2010-02-06 08:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Ah, I will have to remember to change it then! That was my original assumption, but the listings I looked at back then listed the next ep as 2x11 instead, so I made up my own listing, lol. But 2x11 makes a lot more sense (I mean, minus the weirdness of having a first season episode in the middle of the second season!). Thanks!

Yeah, I don't think I'll watch either show on a regular basis again, but I figure if I watch them marathon style, it won't be so bad. But, yeah, certainly nothing I've heard about either show has motivated me to pick them back up!

When you read a book on your to-read list, do you transfer it over?

Date: 2010-02-23 01:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Yep. I started by crossing them out, but that would just make the list HUGE before too long . . . and it's already long enough, lol.

I guess that leaves out the books I try and don't finish, but there aren't very many of those.

Date: 2010-02-23 01:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com
that's neat. I really envy the amount you read! It's admirable :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with reading a lot, but it's good you're finding balance!

Date: 2010-02-23 01:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Oh, I think it's taken over my life too much at times. Like when I carried a book everywhere and read it instead of interacting with people. Or even to some extent when I read instead of write, although I'm definitely a big believer in you have to read a lot if you want to write well.

Date: 2010-02-23 01:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] torigates.livejournal.com
Totally. I think part of the reason I can write as well as I do is because of how much I've read in my life.

Date: 2010-02-23 02:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Yeah, people who want to write, but don't read much always make me a little nervous. I try to be pretty open to different ideas about writing since, hey, just look at your last post--we all work in different ways!--but that's something I feel pretty strongly about.

Date: 2010-02-23 02:01 am (UTC)

Well yeah, there is natural talent, but you have to learn from the greats (and not-so-greats)

And just in terms of things like, how to plot, or technical things like dialogue tags. It's helpful to learn how other people do things.
