Since I'm asking this everywhere else, might as well ask it here: JK Rowling's new book is listed at $19.99 for the eBook and $35 for the hard copy ($20 on Amazon). Are you willing to pay that much for it? If not, if you take price out of the equation (say, borrow from a friend or the library), are you interested in reading it? (Information about the book is here).

My sister and I went to the Mariners game yesterday. There was a Groupon deal for suite tickets, so we were SUPER FANCY. I did like it, but it's a pretty different experience than "normal." The view was really nice, but I didn't feel as caught up in the game, like you usually do at games. NOW, some of that might just be how empty the suite was. There was a guy and his son in our suite, but that's it, plus at least 4 or 5 suites to both sides of us were completely empty. (Which also means that I'm guessing Mariners will do this promotion again in attempt to sell seats, so if you're interested in attending a game, keep an eye on that!) You also got $10 of credit for food or merchandise on the ticket, so I got a really awesome pasta. (They have this whole separate food area for the fancy seats.) Also, you could walk right by the broadcast center! And, maybe my favorite part, they had free toothbrushes in the bathroom!!! (Also candy, which my sister took a bunch of.) AND the Mariners won, but, even more excitingly, they hit home runs!!!!

I'm sure I had other stuff to say, but I can't remember it right now.

Honestly, don't think I'm going to buy it. The new JK Rowling book if it's that much. Dunno if I'm really interested in reading it.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I did put a hold on it today, but I'm just not that excited.

Right. Dunno if I'll even read it

Yeah, you'll have to tell me if it's good.:P

:D I'm hoping there will be reviews of it before it comes out!

I'm sure there will be.

You know, other than the initial that is way too much for an ebook reaction, I just don't think it sounds that interesting. And I don't see how her writing style would translate to a book of that kind of description. Idk. I really think they're doing this wrong.

I think they need to put out reviews of it NOW. Even negative reviews would probably be helpful because we just know so little about it!

I haven't gotten a TON of responses, so I don't want to make any sweeping generalizations, but I've only gotten one, "Yes, I'm going to buy it right away" so far.

Yeah, I'll probably buy it, but not right away. I might actually wait for the paperback. The description seems super boring. I guess it depends on the reviews? But the price isn't really why I wouldn't buy it, idk.

I guess it's a combination for me. Like, if it were cheaper, I probably would've ordered it without thinking. And maybe I'd consider it more if I really loved the description. But as is, I'm just not eager to read it.

I honestly wasn't planning on buying it anyway, and I'm not sure I'd intentionally seek it out (unless I heard from people that it was great, in which case I'd probably just wait to get it from the library). The plot mostly doesn't interest me, and I felt like the later HP books weren't edited enough because at that point it didn't matter, they were still going to be wildly popular. I would probably read it eventually if someone gave me a copy, though? I GUESS.

Oooh, Suite tickets! That is VERY FANCY! I'm glad you had a good time!!

Yeah, and I feel like they're trying to bank on that popularity with these prices, but I DON'T KNOW. It's sounds so different from HP and they just haven't told us much about it. I have it on hold at the library, but I'm just not that excited. I probably would've preordered it if it were cheaper, but, at this point, even if the prices went lower, I've had too much time to think about it, so I still wouldn't buy it.

Yeah! And only $70 or so. Also, I wanted to tell you: PRETTY SURE The Mentalist was on the tv in a neighboring suite.

I need like several reviews of that book now. I just don't even know anything about it basically.

YES. Your comment on Twitter made me think about that, actually! The description is so vague and, if it's an HP book, I kind of WANT vague, but the little we DO know doesn't interest me much, so I need to know so much more. I did put it on hold at the library, though. So I'll PROBABLY read it.

There is not a single author I'd spend close to $40 on A BOOK for. I love books as much as the next person, but I don't have an ereader and $35 is A LOT of money for a book. I just read the description and it doesn't sound like something I'll absolutely have to read. So, I guess I won't? Or I will once it's been out a long time and the price goes down, haha.

Oh wow, the suite thing sounds kind of cool, especially if you get food with it, but it sucks that you didn't feel as caught up in the game. But then again, I guess it's better to not get used to the luxurious seats? Heh.

I mean, if one of the Harry Potter books was that much, I'd probably still need it right away, but the description doesn't sound that interesting to me, either. I put it on hold at the library and will probably get it pretty soon after it's released, but, between the price and the description, I'm just not that excited.

Ha! Good point! Don't want to get too good for the cheap seats! :D

Sadly, I am the most likely person in the family to buy it.

I just feel like we don't know enough! For the HP books, I kind of WANTED vague for the descriptions, but this sounds like such a departure from those that I'm not convinced on author name alone.

I'm having such a hard time even finishing a book these days I doubt I'll go out of my way to get it first thing. I imagine I'll read it at some point.

PS. What are you thinking in terms of Persuasion?

From: [identity profile] katayla.livejournal.com
Yeah, I have it on hold at the library, but I'm not sure how I'll interested I'll be when the time comes.

I DON'T KNOW. I'll probably read it, since I haven't missed a beforetv book yet, but probably more towards the end of the month. You?

I am going to do my best to read it. I'M GOING TO TRY REALLY HARD. And then we can just get back into Northanger Abbey whenever, I guess?

Yeah, sounds good! I'm reading! Just kind of picky, haha. I've given up on soooo many books lately.

I think the whole world will have an opinion on the JK Rowling book so part of me wants to get in early and read it before anyone else's opinion can influence me. I'm more curious than excited I guess?

The price is on the cheap-normal price range in Australia. And a good price for a new release so the price doesn't bother me. Books are way more expensive here than the US. I don't understand why our government has to put so many taxes on them. They should be encouraging reading! I'll probs get the ebook version 'cos I'm out of space for any more books lol.

That's a good point! I've been thinking I wanted to read some reviews because we know so little about it, but I don't want to be influenced too much.

I've heard that about your books before! That sucks. This is pretty high for here, especially the eBook price. And YEAH. My books are pretty out of control. Good thing some of them ARE ebooks, haha!

I'll probably read it at some stage out of curiousity (which also probably means buying it because that's how I acquire most of my books these days) but honestly, it sounds a little boring to me.

Yeah, that's another part of the problem for me. I'm curious, but the description doesn't make me EXCITED, you know?
