Marshall: Why ask a failed romance to come and watch your successful one? You know, it's like inviting the Seattle Mariners to a World Series game. It's just weird for everyone.

"Shelter Island," How I Met Your Mother

I'm so sad this still rings so true. Or rings true again, since last season wasn't bad. Today was the Mariners last game. And they lost. For the 101st time this season (they won 61). Their 100th loss was yesterday, so that was a great season.

It's the second worst record in MLB. They scored the least number of runs since the DH was introduced. And all kinds of other crazy similar stats that basically just say the Mariners are one of the most awful offensive teams ever.

On the bright side, Felix might really win the Cy Young and we have Ichiro. I used to love more players on the team, but now I'm thinking everyone over the age of 25 who's not Ichiro can just go away.

Also, the Padres lost and they were going to be my NL team. So now I'm lost. And I'm rooting for the Rays and the Rangers, but they're playing each other in the first round, so I'm not sure how that's going to work for me. I guess I can just cheer for every single play in those games?

Anyway. On that note.

[Poll #1627300]

So. Yeah. Now I need to go figure out what to do with the Mariners offseason. I know I complained a lot (and thanks for putting up with me!), but I'm going to miss them.

Yeah, I think they might end up winning me over as the playoffs go on. I was just preparing to jump on the Padres bandwagon. :-/

Please note that I don't care about baseball and am genetically predisposed to dislike everything about Minnesota (you hate the ones you're most like, right?), but I voted for the Twins anyway.

Become a hockey fan! It's probably at least as painful, lol. And there's hitting. :)

Hee! I want them to beat the Yankees at least!

But I don't have a local team! That always makes it harder for me. I don't think I even get many games.

Giants, obvs. This is my first season as a baseball fan, and watching their September journey has been so much fun.

Aw, I'm jealous! Actually, their run is a little like my first real Mariners season (15 years ago, lol), so maybe I should root for them for that reason.

Okay I was just having this conversation with my mom--I'm all for the Reds because they haven't had a good season since Pete Ross was manager, and we KNOW how long that's been.

Also, the Twins have that new stadium, and haven't had much success since Kirby Puckett in the early 90s, so COME BACK TO THE PARTY TEAMS!

Yeah, I think that's sort of going to be my strategy. The Rangers are one of the only teams besides the Mariners who haven't been to the world series, so, even though they're a division rival, I'm kind of rooting for them to go all the way.

I have lingering issues with the Rangers from the days when they were dug into the ground by Dubya.

I just feel sorry for them.

But mostly I think I'm just going to root for the underdogs. Because no way can I root for the super-successful teams after this season.

BRAVES BRAVES BRAVES.

Favorite team PLUS they have that wonderful tale of THIS BEING BOBBY COX'S LAST SEASON AS MANAGER. They have to win, they just have to.

I have mixed feelings about that, though, 'cause he HAS won the series before and the Mariners have never been to one at all, so I might be too bitter!

They were actually pretty good this year! They just play in the most competitive division.

Since the Sox are out, I don't really care, other than the fact that they kept the Yankees from winning the Division. I said the Rangers though because they're my old best friends favorite team. lol

Although I think it'll be either the Yankees or Rays going to the World Series, and I'd definitely much rather the Rays win.

HEE. I was glad the Yankees didn't win the division. Not that it matters that much, really, but still.

Yeah, it's hard to see the Rangers especially making it out of this round.
